Background 💭

The author has still not fully explained:

Why exactly was Paul sent to Room 101 for Emotional Sequencing Treatment?

Spoiler Content 🙈

The following facts can currently be confirmed or are strongly suspected:

  • Paul was once classified by Room 301 as a high-risk relationship offender.
  • He had come into contact with legacy agents, paper-based nodes and undeclared technology.
  • Following treatment, he was classified as Sample 87.
  • Sample 87’s Primaries medical record was marked: [Preserved Colour: Incomplete]
  • Medical records indicate that complete erasure would have affected the consistency of his personality and his ability to function socially.
  • Serena had known Paul before he entered Room 101 and personally participated in his treatment.
  • A six-second section of the treatment record was truncated.
  • Serena and Sandy later both appeared in White List records.
  • Mr Dunn arranged for Cubby to enter Serena and Sandy line and assist with work that was never formally documented.
  • Cubby would awaken only when certain individuals reconnected.
  • Before contact with him was lost, Mr Dunn entrusted Clever Turtle to Maggie.
  • Maggie had previously worked at BELI, where she knew both Mr Dunn and Paul. She later entered the Room 401.
  • During her time in Room 401, she was assisted by Bagua Shell.
  • Maggie later left Room 401 and became an underground writer.
  • Before attending his hearing in Room 301, Paul entrusted Planetary Duck to Queenie.
  • Mr Dunn was later reported to have died by “suicide”.
  • The White List Recovery Pool collects residual data relating to individuals, agents and Sentimental Sequencing.
  • The Recomposition Project is constructing a relational cross-reference map centred on Sample 87.
  • One medical instruction reads: [Put them together.]
  • When Clever Turtle reappeared, the Primaries Project displayed the following completion level: [60%]

In view of the above information, the Second Version Editorial Team considers the following interpretation no longer sufficient:

“A relationship problem led to treatment in Room 101.”

Snowy Owl 🦉:

This meeting remains an exercise in speculation that has not been confirmed by the author.

Please do not insert any of these theories into official character profiles merely because new evidence has made certain suspicions appear more reasonable.

Little Pinky 🐭:

So this time, we’re not just making things up. We’re making things up with evidence.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

That is one way of putting it.

Agenda📜
* Determine the true reason Paul was sent to Room 101.
* Review existing character testimony and residual records.
* Assess the possible responsibility of the White List Recovery Pool, the Recomposition Project and the individuals concerned.
* Examine the various unexplained arrangements left behind by Mr Dunn.
* Determine whether Sample 87 had been a long-term observation subject from the beginning.
* Consider any further theories that may prevent the author from continuing to answer, “It will be explained later.”

Theory One 🔍

[Queenie’s Relationship Data Triggered the Procedure]

Little Pinky 🐭:

Let us begin by retaining the most conventional explanation.

Following the breakdown of Paul and Queenie’s relationship, Room 301 may have obtained a substantial volume of private records, including:

* Non-standard emotional orientations.
* Undeclared agents and objects.
* Concealed resistance to the relationship ruling.
* A habit of storing information across separate locations.

Queenie may not have known that the information would be passed to Room 101.

She may only have wanted to prove that the failure of the relationship was not entirely her fault.

However, one detail cannot be ignored: Before attending his hearing in Room 301, Paul entrusted Planetary Duck to her.

Dustshark 🦈:

So he knew he might not be coming back?

Little Pinky 🐭:

Or he was simply worried that someone would confiscate the duck.

Big Eye 👁️:

Whatever the reason, it indicates that Paul had already begun moving certain things away from himself before the hearing.

Queenie may not have been a collaborator, but she unquestionably became a custodian.

Little Turtle 🐢:

The relationship data she submitted may have provided the system with an apparent legal justification for initiating the procedure.

Paul’s decision to entrust Planetary Duck to her, meanwhile, suggests that he may have anticipated that the matter would not end in Room 301.

Provisional confidence: 36%.

Theory Two 🔍

[Paul May Have Been Sent to Room 101 as Part of a Long-Term Project Experiment]

Snowy Owl 🦉 :

Recovered early footage shows that Paul had already undergone emotional-management training and preliminary assessment before entering Room 101.

At the time, the system had already labelled him:

[Sample 87 | Positive Response]

This indicates that Sample 87 did not originate in Room 101.

Paul may have been a long-term observation subject well before he entered it.

Big Eye 👁️:

If that is the case, Room 101 may not have been merely a treatment facility.

It may have represented an escalation of the Recomposition Project experiment.

Little Pinky 🐭 :

So all that time, he thought he was learning emotional management.

But someone was actually observing him.

Little Turtle 🐢:

Existing records indicate that the system had been assessing:

* His ability to control his emotions.
* His approach to managing relationships.
* His willingness to cooperate voluntarily.

Room 101 may simply have been a later-stage procedure.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

The Recomposition medical record also states:

[Sample 87 | Retained Colour: Unfinished]

We previously assumed that the system had been unable to erase Paul completely.

A more plausible explanation may now be that the system never intended to erase him completely.

It needed to preserve enough of his humanity to observe whether the subject would reconnect with former individuals, legacy agents and old memories.

Dustshark 🦈 :

Paul thought he was rebuilding his life.

The system may have thought it was observing an experiment.

Little Pinky 🐭 :

So Room 101 wasn’t the end. It may only have been the next stage.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

If this theory is correct, Paul may not have been sent to Room 101 merely because of something he had done.

He may have been sent there because: he was Sample 87.

Provisional confidence: 93%.

Theory Three 🔍

[Serena Was Originally Assigned to Approach Paul]

Big Eye 👁️:

It remains entirely possible that Serena’s initial approach to Paul was work-related.

She possessed:
* The role of an emotional counsellor.
* Paul’s instructor for Room 104.
* Legitimate access to Paul’s social circle.
* Authorisation to participate in Room 101 procedures.

She may originally have been assigned to observe an individual who possessed knowledge of agent technology and system vulnerabilities.

Spoiler Content 🙈

Dustshark 🦈:

But Mr Dunn and Cubby suggest that she may already have been involved in another arrangement.

Big Eye 👁️:

The two possibilities are not mutually exclusive.

She may have begun by working for the system and later changed her position.

Or perhaps she was never fully on either side to begin with.

Little Pinky 🐭:

So… double agent. Maybe even triple agent.

Little Turtle🐢:

Nor should Sandy simply be regarded as supporting evidence for Serena.

If Cubby genuinely assisted both of them with work that was never officially recorded, Sandy may have been responsible for an entirely different layer of the operation:

* Avoiding the official medical record.
* Comparing White List cases.
* Confirming whether certain anomalies were isolated incidents.
* Preserving a second version of Serena’s observations that could never be recorded publicly.

Little Pinky 🐭:

So one of them saves people in front of the cameras.

The other watches who’s turning the cameras on.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

The available evidence is insufficient to determine their exact division of responsibilities.

However, it is no longer reasonable to assume that Sandy was completely unaware.

Big Eye 👁️:

If Serena’s role was to recognise anomalies, then Sandy’s role may have been to determine whether those anomalies still remained.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

This remains speculation.

It must not be written as an established responsibility.

The current evidence can only suggest that Serena and Sandy may already have been involved in some undeclared arrangement before Paul entered Room 101.

Whether that arrangement involved surveillance, protection, or both at the same time remains unknown.

Provisional confidence: 58%.

Theory Four 🔍

[The Hidden Relationship Between Serena and Paul Was Exposed]

Dustshark 🦈:

I still believe they were more than ordinary friends.

The traces include:
* The Grace painting.
* The chocolate and the Witness Stone.
* The exchanged postcards.
* The six-second truncated recording.
* Non-procedural behaviour during treatment.

But what truly concerned senior management may not have been the relationship itself.

It may have been that this relationship simultaneously connected:
* Technology.
* Emotional treatment.
* Agent records.
* Internal loyalty.

Spoiler Content 🙈

Little Pinky 🐭:

So it wasn’t simply because they were in love.

It was because they learned far too much about each other while they were.

Little Turtle 🐢:

The relationship may have been one factor.

Or it may simply have been the point where several separate risks became connected.

Big Eye 👁️:

If Serena had merely been an ordinary emotional counsellor, there would be no reason for her to be involved with Cubby, the six-second truncation and the White List records at the same time.

If she had merely been a secret collaborator, there would likewise be no reason for her to participate personally in Paul’s Sentimential Sequencing Treatment.

Unless…, her position had always required her to perform two mutually contradictory roles at once.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

This theory explains why the two of them had to be separated.

However, it cannot by itself explain Cubby, Sandy, the White List or the Recomposition Project.

The relationship may have been the point at which the problem became visible.

It may not have been the whole problem.

Provisional confidence: 74%.

Theory Five 🔍

[Connected to Mr Dunn’s Network]

Little Turtle 🐢:

I’ve begun to suspect that what Mr Dunn left behind was not merely a handful of temporary arrangements.

Rather, it was a network that had already existed for some time and continued to operate in secret.

An even bolder theory is this:

Paul, Serena, Sandy and Maggie may all have been part of it from the very beginning.

Spoiler Content 🙈

Little Turtle 🐢:

This network appears to have operated according to the principles of the Second Version:

  • Information was preserved in a decentralised manner.
  • Different people and agents retained different versions of the truth.
  • They exchanged, corrected and safeguarded one another’s memories.
  • Even if one node was erased, the remaining nodes could still preserve fragments of the whole.

After Silver Eagle was established, this arrangement may have appeared to come to an end.

Yet the available evidence suggests that it may never have truly disappeared.

Big Eyes 👁️:

Almost all of the key individuals eventually reappeared along the same chain of evidence:

  • Paul retained the agent technology and decentralised communication methods.
  • Mr Dunn authorised certain agents to leave BELI.
  • Serena and Sandy handled undocumented work through Cubby.
  • Maggie later entered Room 401’s Data Calibration Unit before eventually receiving Clever Turtle.
  • Planetary Duck, Clever Turtle, Cubby and Bagua Shell each ended up in the care of different individuals.

That feels less like coincidence…

and more like someone deliberately divided the Second Version into multiple independent nodes, preventing Silver Eagle from eliminating it all at once.

Little Pinky 🐭:

So after Silver Eagle won, they looked as though they’d all gone their separate ways.

But in reality, they quietly kept preserving pieces for one another.

Dustshark 🦈:

And each of them may have been responsible for a different part.

Paul handled the technology.

Serena and Sandy dealt with medical and emotional records.

Maggie had access to data before and after calibration.

Mr Dunn’s role was to connect the people and the agents together.

Little Turtle 🐢:

If this network truly existed, it may never have been a formal organisation.

Perhaps no one ever knew the complete plan.

Each person may only have known what they were responsible for preserving—

and who they were meant to pass it on to.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

That could also explain why both Paul and Mr Dunn eventually became targets for removal.

If Silver Eagle discovered that Mr Dunn had been secretly maintaining a Second Version network that could not be fully controlled by the central system,

and that Paul, Serena, Sandy and Maggie had long been part of it,

then Paul’s transfer to Room 101 and Mr Dunn’s subsequent death may not have been two unrelated events after all.

Big Eyes 👁️:

In other words, what Silver Eagle sought to eliminate may not simply have been Paul and Mr Dunn.

It may have been the connections that still existed between them.

Little Pinky 🐭:

Because as long as someone still remembers another version, Silver Eagle can never claim to be the only version.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

At present, we still cannot confirm:

  • Whether Paul knew about the network as a whole.
  • When Serena, Sandy and Maggie became involved.
  • Whether Mr Dunn was truly responsible for coordinating it.
  • When Silver Eagle first became aware of these connections.
  • Whether Paul’s transfer to Room 101 and Mr Dunn’s death were part of the same operation.

However, one conspiracy theory can now be proposed:

Mr Dunn may have long been preserving a decentralised Second Version network together with Paul, Serena, Sandy and Maggie. That network may later have failed, been exposed, or simply been discovered by Silver Eagle.

Silver Eagle subsequently decided to deal with both Paul and Mr Dunn.

Provisional confidence: 48%.

Theory Six 🔍

[Paul Voluntarily Cooperated with Part of the Room 101 Procedure]

Little Turtle 🐢:

If Paul had already realised that he could not avoid whatever came next, he may have chosen to cooperate with part of the procedure.

His objective may not have been to accept erasure.

Instead, it may simply have been to:
* Distribute important information.
* Reduce the amount of information he himself could reveal.
* Protect other people and agents.
* Leave behind triggers that would allow everything to be reconnected one day.

Spoiler Content 🙈

Little Turtle 🐢:

Paul entrusted Planetary Duck to Queenie, while Mr Dunn entrusted Clever Turtle to Maggie.

Structurally, the two actions are remarkably similar. In both cases, before someone risked losing their freedom, memories or ability to communicate, they first entrusted an agent to another person.

Dustshark 🦈:

But one was before going to Room 301.

The other was before he died.

Don’t make it sound as though they’re the same thing.

Little Turtle 🐢:

They’re not the same event.

But they may reflect the same judgement:

Sometimes, the least safe place to keep something is with its owner.

Big Eye 👁️:

That would also imply that, before entering Room 301, Paul may already have realised he was facing something far beyond an ordinary relationship hearing.

Little Pinky 🐭:

ut after the treatment, Paul didn’t even recognise Little Bear.

If all this had really been his own arrangement, why didn’t he know about it himself?

Little Turtle 🐢:

The most effective form of compartmentalisation is for nobody to possess the complete version.

Including Paul himself.

Little Pinky 🐭:

Then who was the one person who knew how all the pieces were supposed to fit together?

Snowy Owl 🦉:

Perhaps that person is no longer here.

Or perhaps no one ever knew the whole picture.

Provisional confidence: 76%.

General Discussion 🧩

Dustshark 🦈:

I’m beginning to think we’ve been asking the wrong question all along.

Perhaps the real question isn’t:

“Why was Paul sent to Room 101?”

Instead, it is:

“Why Paul?”

Big Eye 👁️:

If Paul had already been designated as Sample 87 during his emotional-management programme, then Room 101 may not have been the beginning of the story.

It may simply have been one stage in a long-term observation programme.

Spoiler Content 🙈

Little Turtle 🐢:

At present, the six theories do not contradict one another. On the contrary, they can be assembled into a single chronological sequence:

  • The Second Version was dismantled.
  • Mr Dunn established a clandestine network to preserve and protect the Second Version.
  • Paul became involved, while Silver Eagle continued to monitor him.
  • Silver Eagle assigned Serena to approach Paul.
  • Paul underwent preliminary assessment and was designated Sample 87.
  • A secret relationship gradually developed between Paul and Serena.
  • The Room 301 incident occurred.
  • Paul was transferred to Room 101.
  • Mr Dunn later died by “suicide.”
  • Afterwards, the people and the Second Version agents gradually reconnected.

Little Pinky 🐭:

We used to think:

Paul broke the rules, so he was wiped.

Now it looks more like this:

Paul had always been the sample.

Breaking the rules merely triggered the next phase of the procedure.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

At present, we still cannot confirm whether the Recompositon Project selected Paul as an experimental subject from the very beginning.

However, the available evidence is no longer sufficient to support the idea that Room 101 was simply an ordinary Sentimental Sequencing Treatment.

A more convincing model would suggest that:

Emotional Management, Room 301, Room 101 and the Recomposition Project were all part of the same long-term observation programme.

Little Pinky 🐭:

Why did Theory Five receive only three votes?

Little Turtle 🐢:

Because the evidence demonstrates that connections existed between them.

But it is still insufficient to prove that everyone knew they were part of the same network from the beginning.

Dustshark 🦈:

So they might really have been one group.

Or perhaps Mr Dunn connected each of them individually, while none of them realised the others were involved.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

This vote does not establish any of these theories as fact.

Spoiler Content 🙈

It merely reflects the Editorial Team’s view that the following two theories deserve the highest priority for future verification:

  1. Paul had already been Sample 87 long before Room 101.
  2. Mr Dunn may have been maintaining a decentralised Second Version network for years.

If both theories prove to be true, then Paul’s transfer to Room 101 and Mr Dunn’s later death may have been part of the same operation.

Final Resolution 🔨

At present, the Second Version Editorial Team can establish only the following provisional model:

Paul’s transfer to Room 101 does not appear to have been caused by a single relationship, a single report, or a single technical violation.

Big Eye 👁️:

I recommend that the author answer at least one of the following questions in a future chapter:

When Mr Dunn first entrusted part of the Second Version to someone else, did he realise that he had already begun building a network?

Dustshark 🦈:

I object.

Whenever the author answers a question like that, it usually turns out there was another person behind Mr Dunn all along.

Snowy Owl 🦉:

Objection accepted.

The following item is added to the pending agenda:

[Was Mr Dunn the founder of the network, or merely another node?]
